I’mgoingtosaysomethingcontroversial.Asaclimatescientist,Ipredictasustained,noticeable,andseverecoolingtrendacrosstheNorthernHemisphere.Thecoldwillbeginsoon,ifithasn’talready,andlastuntilatleasttheendoftheyear.Someregionswillfreeze,itwillsnow,andclimatedenierswillgloat.Thecauseisaphenomenonthat,whilemysterious,isknowntoscience.Wecallit“winter.”

正因为如此，许多人在谈论气候背景下的极端天气事件时都不太自信。但是，气候变化确实会搞乱日常天气现象，极端天气发生的可能性变得更大。例如:大气中水蒸气的含量会随着温度的升高而增加，气温每增长1°F,含水量增加3%。结果呢?暴风雨天气明显增多。同样地，当整个地球变暖时，热浪发生的频率也随之变高。

一场暴雨或一场严重的热浪足够证明气候正在发生变化吗?当然不够。长期、大量的证据才能证明。但气候变化确实能将强降雨变得更强，热浪变得更热、更频繁。所以我们有理由怀疑气候变化已经发生，并影响了最近一些极端天气事件的发生。
